Pets on Quilts

When I stumbled across SewCalGal's 2011 Pets on Quilts Show, I had to find this picture and enter.
Sammie, my constant companion for sixteen years.  Looks like I just interrupted her reading, doesn't it?

It's all about the dog.  The quilt is incidental.

She dominates.

She fills whatever space she enters.

I love this little rat!

These pictures are eight years old and she is much changed.  She is mostly blind and deaf and has an inoperable tumor that will eventually carry her away.  But, she gets frisky about her kibble and will still spin for treats.  I'm loving her and taking care of her to the end.

About the quilt.  My sister made it, entirely I think, from scraps from our old clothes, little tops & dresses we sewed for ourselves in high school.   I used it for picnics and outdoor concerts throughout my twenties and just generally abused it.  It's made of tough stuff and I appreciate it more now.

For some reason, I can't get the button on my blog, but go here to see and vote (tomorrow and Sunday) on all the Pets on Quilts entries!

I love it when a pet is such a true companion. Sammie looks like a true sweetie.

Sammie reminds me of the terrier my Mom had... Mitzi had a set of three spots that looked like a hidden Micky... She was tiny in height by weight, well lets say she loved treats... she lived to be 16years old...

She is such a sweetie. It's so hard to watch them age. I always feel that's when we give back so much of the love they have given us. Thanks for sharing your story. The quilt is beautiful too.

Hi! what a sweetie, they do enrich our lives don't they. I have a JRT called Sam (boy though) he is 10 years old we think and had a tumour removed last year, so far the cancer hasn't returned. My other dog is nearly 18.1/2, very deaf and nearly blind and we are doing the same as you, caring for her as best we can, she too has her moments and gets excited for her dinner - especially if there is some cooked chicken in it.

She is just adorable. My dog spins, too, when we put her dish down. What is that all about, I wonder?

What a sweetie! And that is actually one cute quilt - I love the durable ones that you can beat up. Keep hugging your little one as long as you can - they warm your heart, for sure.

JRT's are little ratters aren't they! I must confess when my husband in our dating days announced he had a dog and this untrained crazy dog came into my life, it was not love at first site. But now, I to am totally in love with my little JRT. Your sister did an amazing job on that quilt, it looks beautiful.
