Antique? Vintage? Worthless?

Found this raggedy little quilt top at a consignment store.  It's pretty fragile looking and not perfectly pieced, but who am I to be critical?

So I paid for it & brought it home.  Now what?  Is it wrong to cut up old quilts like this to re-purpose into something else?

That is such a sweet quilt! Some treasures like this need just a little repair and then there are others that need a new life! It's hard for me to cut them apart, (big gulp) but sometimes that is what you have to do to really enjoy them! Before cutting, I would suggest taking lots of pictures!

Sometimes I can just fold a quilt and it looks terrific. I also have taken apart old quilts and remade a quilt top with the fabrics that were still good.

Absolutely not! Cut away. My mom made teddy bears for each of us kids from one of her grandomther's quilts. Or pieces of it can be framed. It's a great way to keep of piece of the past.

I was pondering this myself. Today I saw an ugly but vintage quilt at a garage sale, since I'm working on a postage stamp quilt, I seriously considered buying it and using the patches for fabric in mine. Just because it's old, doesn't mean it's a beautiful design. As a matter of fact, it's rare to find a truly lovely one. I wouldn't have any compunctions about cutting it up and using whatever is good for pillows and such and using the remaining fabric for my own quilts.

I wouldn't cut an old quilt up if it was a masterpiece, but I think this one is begging to be given a new life!

I scored one in a garage sale once. $4. Cut it up, made a bunch of projects, and after I got tired of it, sent pieces off to friends who wanted some. This one was in bad shape. Yours looks better. I think you could go either way with it. Look at it this way, you've "rescued" it and whatever you do with it, it will live on, either intact, or in pieces.

This quilt looks like one my husband had made for him as a child out of some of his old shirts. I agree with others, you should use it however you can to revitalize it.

It's not worthless if you like it :) I am not one for vintage quilts usually, but that one is pretty. Not sure what I'd do with it, but delicate things do NOT last long in my house so I probably won't have vintage anything for quite some time.
